A dark day in Irish Rallying....

Saturday 18th October will be known as another dark day in Irish rallying.
On Saturday Kilrea driver Ryan Bradley died in a tragic accident on the opening stage of 2014 Down Rally near Castlewellen, Co Down.
Ryan’s 1600 Ford Escort Mk2 left the road alongside Lough Island Reavy Reservoir around 10.40am and resulted in the car becoming fully submerged in the reservoir. Ryan’s navigator Gerard Mullen swam to safety but despite the emergency crews arriving on the scene within minutes there was nothing could be done to save Ryan.
Like all extreme sports, rallying and motorsport experience its fair share of fatal accidents but it somewhat different when you know the individual, everyone at McGeehan Motorsport would like to extend their condolences to the Bradley family at this difficult time, Ryan will be a big personality who will be strongly missed around event.

Mini WRC on Mull....!!!

Derek got off to a flying start to the 2014 Mull Rally and was in 4th overall after 2 stages, on stage 3 disaster stuck in the form of mechanical issues which dropped the Mini WRC crew down to 17th place and after the remainder of the opening nights stages the crew finished the day 8th overall.
Day 2 started with a fastest stage time on the opening stage of the day leaving the crew in a strong 4th overall for most of the day. Trouble would strike again for the McGeehan Motorsport crew of stage 17 with intermitting electrical issues which resulted in two off road excursion and a loss of all electrical power including power steering and lights.


After two moments on stage 17 the crew felt it necessary to retire the car at the end of the stage, despite the highs and lows of the Tour of Mull the Derek McGeehan and the McGeehan Motorsport team are one of the most successful Irish crews to venture to this remote island off the Scottish coast.
Derek McGeehan and all of the McGeehan Motorsport Rally Team would like to thank the rally organisers and the people of Mull for the kindness, hospitality and a great atmosphere throughout the event.

Derek McGeehan and the McGeehan Motorsport team will venture to the Isle of Mull for the 2014 Tour of Mull Rally. It shaping up to be a very completive event with a host of past winners and fast locals heading up the entry list.

 

Kelly for the Lakelands in Mini WRC....!!!

Regular Irish Tarmac Rally Championship and Northern Ireland Rally Championship contender Donagh Kelly will be out this weekend in the McGeehan Motorsport Mini John Cooper Works WRC on the 2014 Lakeland stages rally. The Mini WRC is new to Donagh who has never driven a new generation world rally car but after a gravel test this week confidences are high on a strong result this weekend. With the McGeehan Motorsport RHD Mini already setup on gravel spec following Derek McGeehan 1st and 4th place finish on the Sunset Stages and Cork Forestry rallies last weekend.

 

Rallying in the dark....!!!

It’s not often in modern rally to get opportunity to rally at night but the Sunset Stages is the exception and home rallies go it doesn’t get any more home for Derek McGeehan and McGeehan Motorsport.
The 2014 Sunset Stage based at McGeehan Motorsport HQ in Draperstown Northern Ireland and was dominated by their very own Derek McGeehan in the McGeehan Motorsport Hire John Cooper Works Mini WRC (right hand drive) in his first gravel rally of the year.

Martin Donnelly also had a great run over the night time stages in his McGeehan Motorsport prepared Toyota Corolla WRC.

 

Ulster Rally tragedy....!!!

McGeehan Motorsport would like to offer their condolences to the family and friends of Timothy Cathcart following his fatal accident on the 2014 Ulster Rally NI and wish his navigator Di Roberts a fully and speedy recovery. Unfortunately it’s one of the sad and tragic parts of the sport we all love.

 

Carmichael going strong....!!!

Alan Carmichael's Northern Ireland Rally Championship has really taken off with a 2nd place finish on the Tour of the Sperrins and a 4th place finish in the Mourne Rally.

Donnelly in Galway....!!!

It's all go for tomorrow's start of the 2014 Colm Quinn Galway International with Eugene Donnelly and the McGeehan Motorsport Hire Mini WRC (RHD). There's still competition with an amazing line up of World Rally Car on this opening round of the 2014 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. 

A 1st and 3rd for the Derek and Alan McGeehan on the Turkey Run....!!!

It was a great day all round for McGeehan Motorsport with Derek McGeehan in the McGeehan Motorsport Mini WRC and Alan McGeehan in a Toyota Corolla WRC at the 2013 Turkey Run at the former Ballykelly Airbase.


It was a very cold and windy day but Derek with co driver Arthur Cairn in Mini WRC pushed through the extreme winter conditions to finish 1st overall. Alan McGeehan and Niall Magee also finished 3rd overall in a Toyota Corolla WRC.


McGeehan Motorsport customers Martin Donnelly & Brian Doherty in a Toyota Corolla WRC and Seamus Heron & Marc Nugent in a Ford Escort Mk1 finished 10th and 33rd on their final outings of 2013.
